Abstract

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are autonomously self-organized networks without infrastructure support. In a mobile ad hoc network, nodes move arbitrarily, therefore the network may experiences rapid and unpredictable topology changes. Mobile ad hoc networks are appropriate for mobile applications either in hostile environments where no infrastructure is available, or temporarily established. To facilitate communication within the network a routing protocol is used to discover routes between nodes. The goal of the routing protocol is to have an efficient route establishment between a pair of nodes, so that messages can be delivered in a timely manner. One interesting research area in MANET is routing. Routing in the MANETs is a challenging task and has received a tremendous amount of attention from researches. This has led to development of many different routing protocols for MANETs, In this paper, we provide an overview of a wide range of routing protocols proposed in the literature.
