Name Management in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks: A Comprehensive Analysis

Abstract

Ever growing use of wireless devices has increased the demand for use of wireless ad hoc networks. Name systems provide easy communication for network users and many name related solutions have been designed and proposed to provide name services in different types of MANETs. In this paper, we analyze and discuss about the various proposed name systems for ad hoc networks. Then the properties, advantages and limitations of each name system are illuminated. This analysis is of high importance to understand the weakness of existing name systems and designing effective and complete name systems. Finally, we conclude with open research issues.
