Abstract
The problem of alegacysoftware system is never ending. Today’s working system will be tomorrow’s legacy. Whatever care a software developer takes to build a state-of-the-art system as per latest available technology today, due to constant improvement/change in technology, the today’s working system may become tomorrows’ legacy.Legacy System is a computer program, typically a database system, which, although critical to an organization’s operations, is in an obsolete format or is installed on an obsolete system. Replacing legacy system or making itwork with new requirements is themost timeconsuming and also economically unviable to the industry. The outdatedsoftware system that may still be in use in an organizationis because its data cannot be changed to newer or standard format, or its application programs cannot be upgraded. There are many legacy software applications that have either no source codes available or require too much effort to port.One of the severeproblems in the evolution of legacy software system is the loss of knowledge about them.Herein a survey of the problems of Legacy Software System is made and arrived at solutions to these problems using the available techniques.
